Math 199

Math199 is a lab course (Mathematics Special Studies) designed to help students achieve success in their mathematics classes. Students enroll for Math 199 concurrently with another math course, and then attend groups facilitated by trained tutors. Each group consists of students in the same course. Groups meet at the same time every day.

The tutors lead activities that help group members understand the mathematics they are learning, improve their math study skills, and deal with math anxiety.

WHO CAN ENROLL IN 199?
Students who are first generation (neither parent has a bachelor's degree) and low-income (receiving financial aid), or students who have documented disabilities.

ONCE ENROLLED, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
When you enroll in Math 199, your schedule will have TBA (to be announced) as the time of your class. However, arrive between 9am-4pm in Kingston Hall (KG) Room 117 the first day of classes for orientation. The days you attend lab depend on the number of credits you are enrolled in Math 199. If you are enrolled for one credit, you must attend lab on Mondays and Wednesdays for a total of 20 times for the quarter.

If you are enrolled for two credits, you must attend lab on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, for a total of 30 times for the quarter. You may always attend more days than you are required to attend, and the tutor will be available on Fridays at your normal meeting time.

If you have any questions or will not be able to attend the first day, then please contact our mathematics specialist at (509) 359-7392.
