EWU - Cheney Normal School,
now Eastern Washington University, is prominent in the foreground
of this photo taken in 1932. The school opened in 1890 with
16 students. It was closed for one year in 1987 when the governor,
John R. Rogers, vetoed the school's legislated funds. The money
was restored the next year. Click
